Epicurus' brothers

The three known brothers of Epicurus were:

All are reported by Diogenes Laertius to have become members of Epicurus' school of philosophy. None of them reached the rank of kathegemon, as Metrodorus, Polyaenus, and Hermarchus did, which suggests that Epicurus was disinclined to nepotism. Epicurus did honor them, however, by writing three epynomic works named for each of them, perhaps posthumously. In light of this latter hypothesis, it may perhaps be inferred that Epicurus was the youngest of the brothers.
