Magnets and magneticism was a topic addressed repeatedly in the Epicurean literature. Because Epicurus lacked (as did Democritus before him) any theory akin the the modern conception of "atomic forces," it was particularly difficult for the Epicureans to explain what accounted for a magnet's magic-like attractive power.
