Analysis

This Saying summarizes, in a series of negations, Epicurus' views on what truly matters: is is neither the greatest wealth, nor the esteem of others, nor any other, indefinite cause that can dispel the anxieties that plague our soul, or can yield the kind of meaningful joy that constitutes one's true happiness. (Implicit in these negations, of course, is that the only path to happiness is the one shown by Epicurean teachings.)
