Metacosmos [Gr. μετακοσμος, L. intermundia] refers to the realms beyond our world. This the appropriately vague location of the gods, according to Epicurus: since he did not acknowledge their presence on earth, and perhaps wished to steer clear of the prevalent notion that celestial bodies somehow were gods themselves, Epicurus assigned his gods some indistinct abode in outer space, somewhere "beyond" the world (as suggested by the Greek word) or "between" presumably several worlds (as suggested by the Latin one).
