We may discern from Letters of Cicero (Epist. ad Fam., XIII. I; ad Attic., V. 19) that Patro was head of the Epicurean School in Athens circa 51 BCE, though Diogenes Laertius omits him from his roster of Epicurean leaders.

Patro wrote Cicero at this time asking him to intervene against the designs of Memmius to redevelop the original site of Epicurus' Garden, for the sake of society, "honor, duty, testamentary right, the injunction of Epicurus, the protest raised by Phaedrus, the abode, the dwelling, the footprints of illustrious men." As Atticus supported the request, Cicero promised to write to Memmius, who had already abandoned his architectural designs, but was on bad terms with Patro. The outcome of the intervention is unknown.
